India: Between Bhagwat and Bhagwati (Peter Ronald D’Souza and Errol D’Souza)

Increased intolerance of the religious variety seems to be preoccupying the central imagination in India in the recent past.Banning of books ,documentaries and films considered to be disrespectful of ancient cultures and people, stuffing up of the Censor Boards,National Historical and Scientific Societies, changing of school curriculums by unproven and equally unscientific men of bigoted mind-sets and questionable integrity is a counter some would say of an earlier prejudiced ethos and cultural strategy viz.liberal and left-of-centre ideologies. Is this argument valid or obfuscating of the very essential fact of promotion of a non-logical,unscientific, unverifiable, histories of culture and societies?Into this we see a unabashed rush to appropriate national icons like Vivekananda, Netaji,Gandhi,Patil and Ambedkar among others by the powers-that-be.The argument being these leaders belong to no party or community. They belong to us all:the people of Bharatavarsha. And with that many heard the Devil reciting the scriptures....
